The 2024 HFStival in Washington DC
This Year’s HFStival held in Washington DC Nationals Park showcased quite the collection of modern and alternative music artists and bands from the last 30 years. The event had approximately 25,000 in attendance, a majority of which were Gen-Xers, along with a showing of younger fans. According to The Washington Post the average age of those attending was 48 years of age. Many of the former HFS 99.1FM DJs were on stage as well, including the likes of Gina Crash and Bob Waugh, whom added to the nostalgia of this year’s event. This year’s line-up included bands and artists such as Filter, LIT, Tonic, Violent Femmes, Jimmy Eat World, Liz Phair, Bush, Incubus, Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service. Early performing bands had approximately 30 minutes on stage while the later performing bands had more than an hour to play their most recognized songs from earlier albums, as well as some newer songs. The HFstival also showcased “Girl Talk”, a seemingly possessed DJ who danced wildly, while creating a party-like atmosphere on and off stage, spinning a mix of songs from multiple decades. So aside from the variety of food & drink stand options, The HFstival also offered Festival & band merchandise for those desiring a piece of memorabilia, but unlike years past, no tailgating was allowed. It was great to see the support that still exists in the DMV for the past HFS Radio station plus its former DJ crew. Let us hope that this tradition carries on for many years to come.
